In a Conservation Area in south-west London, St John's Road is a brand-new residential building with six units that is split over all upper levels and has a commercial unit on the ground floor.
The project aimed to find the balance between remaining elements of history, being attentive to the details and character of the Conservation Area with modern design principles. When current
standards - specifically for things like thermal performance and outdoor amenity space - conflict with conventional methods, achieving those goals may be challenging.
The finished structure is a successful fusion of traditional materials, proportions, with modern standards and techniques which is evidenced particularly in the intricate designs of the 3D printed cornices and precision cast metal balustrading. The project has now moved from the design phase and began construction on site.
