CONTEXT
Located near Wimbledon Station, the proposal extends across ten upper floors and two basement levels. The ground floor includes a mezzanine and public area, while lower levels accommodate cycle storage, showers and a gym, with street access supported by a powered cycle escalator.
ARCHITECTURAL RESPONSE
One of the key aims of the design is to create an all-electric building capable of benefiting from the continuing decarbonisation of the UK electricity grid, with circular-economy principles considered from the outset. In response to lessons from the pandemic, the workplace strategy also considers how spaces could adapt to future changes in working patterns and social conditions. The proposal provides predominantly column-free floor plates based on a 1.5-metre grid, supporting efficient occupation and future adaptability. Natural light is available from at least two sides of each floor, while terraces and planting are introduced at roof level. The predominantly brick facade is designed to respond to the character and architectural traditions of Wimbledon.
