CONTEXT
Kett House sits on Station Road in Cambridge, within a wider context that includes the Botanic Garden and continuing development around the station. The study asked how the existing commercial asset could remain useful while accommodating greater performance, capacity and workplace quality.
ARCHITECTURAL RESPONSE
The feasibility direction prioritised retention and retrofit, testing additional space without treating demolition as the automatic starting point. The proposed workplace included Grade A office aspirations, terraces and a green roof, with an environmental ambition framed around reducing operational impact and making better use of the existing structure. BREEAM Excellent and carbon-positive references are presented as design aspirations; achieved standards are not claimed without assessment evidence.
