CONTEXT
The feasibility study concerned a constrained conservation-area site in central Guildford, where an existing building was to be retained for commercial use. The opportunity was to add residential accommodation at the rear while considering the scale and setting of both buildings.
ARCHITECTURAL RESPONSE
The proposal retained the existing building for commercial use and placed a six-storey residential tower at the rear. The tower comprised 831 sqm residential GEA, with ten apartments, each with private external space. The study also explored relocating parking, low-impact construction and a green and blue roof with photovoltaic provision.
